*The above opinion is that of Kev Atkinson only, who may be biased.

Apart from the various bits and pieces I do in radio/audio production, I also hold a range of IT qualifications, which count as the 'day job' to keep my car on the road and the roof over my head. Following on from school, where I left with 9 GCSE's (A-C), I continued onto full-time education for another 4 years at Newcastle College where I obtained the BTEC National Certificate for IT Practitioners and secondly a Foundation Degree in IT Systems Support.

After finishing my Foundation Degree I immediately secured full time employment in a successfull, well respected IT department for motor dealer Reg Vardy. My studies and previous employment at BT in their technical help department made the job in the motor trade an exciting, but sadly short one - coming to an end after the Pendragon buyout started to pinch - and the company went down hill.

I moved to work for a local company called Ringtons Ltd - a company which has just recently celebrated its Centenery. My IT skills and experience complimented the job well, and I successfully completed a range of projects within my time at Ringtons. I was made redundant from the IT department in February 2009 due to the 'economic downturn'

I'm now employed by Eaga Plc as an IT Technician, but aside to that I still take on work for website design & PHP coding, if you've got some work for me, contact me!

Here's some of my core skills;

  • Windows 95-Vista Setup & Support (Including Server 2003+ experience)
    Includes desktop support, troubleshooting, maintenance - including hardware.
  • Network & Computer Setup & Maintenance
    Including setup/management/configuration/troubleshooting of all networking devices, wireless solutions, computer building/maintenance/support. Also proficient in cabling CAT5 (creating and running) of cables.
  • Novell Netware & Groupwise System Administrator
    Including management of Novell Netware & Groupwise users, security, file access.
  • Cisco CCNA 1 & 2 Certification
    Including experience of installing Cisco equipment at busy locations, troubleshooting, and replacement of equipment.
  • Blackberry Enterprise Server Administrator (Setup/Configuration/Support)
    Including o2 training at their Leeds Blackberry support centre.
  • Web-design / Graphics
    Experienced using Adobe/Macromedia products, namely Dreamweaver & Fireworks.
  • PHP & MySQL / Microsoft SQL
    Including experience at coding database driven websites & company systems using PHP 5 with MySQL & Microsoft SQL databases. Also data collection & manipulation, and iTAGG scripts - to save SMS text messages to databases.
